This 50×50 barndo with 16-foot side walls was built as a multi-use space, combining a personal shop, living area, and office under one roof.

This is Carl Dean’s third project with Yutzy Construction, and one of several builds completed together over the years, including shops, a home, and an auto shop in Elkins.

Barndomium Layout and Use

The structure is designed to support both residential and work functions. Inside, the layout includes:

• Two kitchens
• Two laundry rooms
• Ample living space
• Spacious work areas

This setup allows for flexibility, whether the space is being used for daily living, work, or both at the same time.

“I know it sounds crazy but I had no plans on anything,” Carl said. “They walked in, we brainstormed, and they built it exactly how I wanted it.”

Exterior Features of this Barndo Project

The exterior combines durable materials with practical design details:

• 50×50 footprint with 16’ side walls
• Wrap-around porch for covered outdoor space
• Five large garage doors for access and workflow
• Wood grain siding under the porch
• Metal wainscot for added durability
• Crow’s foot detail on the gable

The wrap-around porch extends usable space and provides full perimeter coverage along the front and side.

The combination of metal siding and wood grain accents keeps the structure low maintenance while adding contrast.

Quality and Timeline

Timeline was a key factor in this project. “Yutzy can do it in 10 days, where everyone else takes six months,” Carl said.

He went on to highlight how this shorter build time reduces downtime and can help offset costs tied to longer construction timelines.

This build is part of an ongoing working relationship. In addition to multiple completed projects, Carl also works alongside the team as a plumbing partner for Yutzy builds.

“They’re the only ones I outsource to,” he said. “The quality of work is worth every penny.”
