How Terri Ritchie Brought Her Dream Home To Life With Yutzy Construction
Building a custom home can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re managing the project yourself. For homeowner Terri Ritchie, that was exactly the situation. She served as her own general contractor for the first time, coordinating suppliers and making countless decisions along the way.
Looking back, she says choosing Yutzy Construction was one of the easiest parts of the entire process.

Building With a Team You Trust
Terri didn’t have to spend hours researching builders. Having lived near the Yutzy family for years, she already knew their reputation.
“I know they’re a great family. They were definitely who I wanted to use.”
Being neighbors made the experience even more reassuring. Before she hired the Yutzy crew, they were “neighbors from up the hill”, so there was a trusting relationship from the start.
That confidence only grew throughout the project, as the Yutzy team stayed in close communication from start to finish.
A Crew That Worked Like Clockwork

One of the things that impressed Terri most was how organized the crew was.
“They were on in seven or eight days. They were amazing. Everyone had their own job they do, and they were so structured. It was the best experience I’ve ever had.”
While she was juggling suppliers and coordinating the rest of the build herself, she never had to wonder what was happening with Yutzy’s portion of the project.
“They were there when they said they would be. They started early. So often dealing with contractors it’s hard to communicate or get work done on schedule.”
She said the process couldn’t have been smoother. “I couldn’t have asked for it to go any smoother.”

Turning Online Inspiration Into a Custom Home
Like many homeowners, Terri’s dream home started with a picture she found online. It wasn’t a complete set of blueprints. It was simply a photo of a house she had admired for a long time, along with the floor plan dimensions she liked.
From there, Yutzy Construction helped turn that inspiration into a home designed around the way she actually lives. Throughout the build, the team checked in often, asking questions and making sure every detail matched her vision. As framing approached, Terri realized she wanted to be sure all of her bedroom furniture would fit comfortably in the primary suite.
“I sent them the dimensions of my bedroom furniture and asked, ‘Is there any way we can make this work?’ My bed, nightstands, dresser and big chest…they made it work. Plus a closet and everything.”
She also knew exactly what she wanted for the exterior. “I just knew I wanted it black, and I knew I wanted bigger windows in the front, not just the standard windows.”
Those custom touches helped transform an online inspiration into a home that feels uniquely hers.

From Travel Trailer to Finished Home
The overall building process moved quickly.
While the home was under construction, Terri lived in a travel trailer on the property.
“I moved out there on my birthday in September. I was moving into my new house completely finished February first.”
For someone acting as her own general contractor for the first time, it was an experience that exceeded her expectations.
A Relationship That Didn’t End at Move-In
After moving in, Terri decided she wanted to expand the concrete in front of the garage and add decorative concrete flower beds.
Yutzy Construction returned to complete the additional work. “Yutzy did that too in one day. They poured some around the back a little bit. I might get some more on the other side for another flower bed.”
It’s the kind of ongoing relationship many homeowners appreciate after their home is complete. Terri says she’s lost count of how many people have reached out after seeing photos of her home.
“They have done so many in our area. So many people have come to me since they started posting pictures of my house wanting to see it and know how long it took. I can’t rave about them enough.”
In fact, she had already recommended Yutzy Construction to her niece before building her own home. “My niece had them build her house too, and they did an amazing job on hers.”
When asked to describe her experience, she didn’t hesitate. “They were so polite, so accommodating, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.”
